Carmarthenshire Music Service held its annual Intermediate Music Festival on the 29th of February and the 2nd of March, playing to capacity audiences at Queen Elizabeth High School, Carmarthen. Over the two concerts more than 300 pupils representing secondary schools in Carmarthenshire took part.
Most of the Intermediate Groups rehearse weekly on Monday evenings and these performances were a chance to display the results of two terms of hard work by both pupils and staff.
Classical Guitar Ensemble
The first concert featured four of the County Intermediate ensembles (Percussion Group, Classical Guitar Ensemble, Harp Ensemble and String Orchestra) and the audience was treated to a wide variety of music including Pop and Soul favourites, Traditional Welsh Folk Music and Popular Classics.
The second concert featured the Intermediate Wind Band. The audience was treated to some excellent playing by this ensemble. This will give the young woodwind and brass players of Carmarthenshire some valuable experience of wind band repertoire before hopefully progressing to the Senior Symphonic wind band. The music performed ranged from a selection from the West End musical Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory to Pachelbel's 'Canon'!
The concert also provided a platform for two senior pupils to perform as soloists. The audience heard excellent performances from Daniel O'Callaghan (Flute) and Elliot Curtis (Violin).
Congratulations to staff and pupils alike for a wonderful evening of music making!
