Carmarthenshire Music Service held its annual Senior Music Festival over two evenings in March, playing to capacity audiences at Gwendraeth Hall, Drefach. Over the two concerts more than 300 pupils representing secondary schools in Carmarthenshire took part. The Senior Groups rehearse on a monthly or day-course basis, and this concert was a chance to display the results of two terms of hard work by both pupils and staff.
The first concert featured the Big Band, violin soloist Elliot Curtis and the Senior Wind Band.
The appreciative audience was treated to performances of a wide variety of music including classical music favourites, jazz classics, pop and music from film and television.
The evening also included the presentation of the Ralph Davies Memorial Award for the most promising jazz musician and this year’s recipient was Joseph Deveza.
The second concert featured the Harp Ensemble, County Girls Choir and the Senior Orchestra.
Once again a wide variety of music was performed including a wonderful selection of music in different styles including classical music favourites, traditional folk music, and music from the movies.
The evening also included the presentation of the Terry Jones Memorial Prize and this year’s recipients were Amelia Lee, Elliot Curtis, Rhydian Tiddy, Laity Watters and Owen Llewellyn-Jones.
